Life is all about the choices we make. Some turn out great and some lets be honest are a disaster. I have recently learnt that there is no situation you cannot get out of or change which, keeping this in mind takes a lot of the pressure off your decisions.
Feeling trapped is one of the worst feelings in the world, and I spent the last 3 years feeling like anything I did always turned out wrong and made me feel like the whole world was against me. This was until one random day someone said to me that all you have to do is think about life in a slightly different way and there is not situation you cannot get out of.
So here is what helped me:
– Have a job you hate? Starting looking for a new one. This makes you feel like there is something else out there, you may not be able to quit immediately but at least there is hope in the near future. You never know what might be out there waiting just for you to grab it!
– Want to change your career? Do it! Don’t let anyone tell you you are throwing away your life, it is YOUR life after all. If you have a passion for something, find more time for it. Want to start something new, try it. No one is going to judge you if you are happy and by making your own choices people will in turn be happy for you.
– Want to travel the world? Find a way to make it hapen, you never know who you will meet along the way. There are holidays where you blow all your money just like that or there are working holidays. I have this idea in my head that I want to live in a new country for 1 year, get a casual job and experience that new culture and travel on my days off. That sounds perfect to me but may not for someone else, come up with your own ideas and start a plan towards your goals.
Implementing these small changes in my mind meant that I didn’t feel stuck in what I was doing and gave me to confidence to make some major changes in my life.
Making your own choices in an important life skill to learn. A lot of the time we will look to others for their opinions. But in the end it is our life and the only person the decision is going to truly affect is ourselves. Keeping this in mind decisions are never indefinite, there is always a way out if you want it, so never feel like you have made the ‘wrong’ choice. Choose to look at it as if it was an experience that has made you a stronger person and realise what you really want out of life. So go out there and get it!
